Every year, from August 2-5, music lovers from all over the country gather in Chicago to appreciate music, food, and friends at Lollapalooza. Since students live so close to Chicago, plenty of students spend their summers preparing, planning, and finally spending a few days at Lolla.

After four-day tickets went on sale on March 20 and the lineup was released the day after, talk of Lollapalooza has been bouncing off the hallway walls.

This year, the headliners are Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, and Jack White, which plenty of students are excited for, but students are also looking forward to seeing some of the countless smaller artists included in the lineup, some of which are making their festival debut at Lolla.

“If I’m able to go, I’d love to see Wallows and Catfish and the Bottlemen,” freshman Ava Miller said.

After Muse and Lorde’s sets were cut short by a storm last year, students are hoping for clear skies.

Even though it’s months away, students who managed to buy tickets are already planning their experiences.

“I’m planning on seeing a lot of artists since I’m going all four days, but I’m most excited about The Neighbourhood and Arctic Monkeys because I’ve been listening to them for so long,” freshman Veronika Brzosko said.

Some people have become wary of attending Lollapalooza because of the news that the Las Vegas shooter originally planned to attack Lolla instead. Despite this, the majority of students are still planning to enjoy their time Lollapalooza without worrying about potential danger.

“It really is scary knowing awful things like that happened in the past, but I don’t really feel threatened going to Lolla because there will be a lot of security,” freshman Veronika Brzosko said.

This year, the price for a four-day ticket rose to $335. Lollapalooza is pretty pricey, but between the unique lineup, beautiful location, and simply the overall experience, most students can agree that it’s worth it.

“I’m most excited to have fun and make memories with my best friend,” freshman Sophia Jarowyj said.
