Sophomore Mary Renner is an artist, student council member, and track athlete, but she also has a unique hobby of pin collecting.

“I’ve been slowly accumulating pins for a couple years now, I get them from everywhere I go and from the cool people I meet,” Renner said.

Students may notice Renner as she walks through the halls with an old jean jacket full of pins.

“I feel like a walking museum kind of, every one of my pins has a story which is so special to me, Renner said.

Renner, who considers herself a natural people person, finds her mini pieces of wearable art a great taking point.

“I just love that it’s really a conversation piece, I get to share little pieces of my life in a very odd way, I get to wear my story,” Renner said.

These pins have also connected Renner to strangers she meets on the street.

“I’ve had so many interesting interactions with people over this ol thing, I once met a guy at a taco place and he told me that his friend has a pin jacket just like me and I should reach out to him, lo and behold he works for thrasher magazine and I got a really cool connection out of it,” Renner said.

The collection was an easy start for Renner.

“I wanted a cool way to display them and I thrifted this jean jacket and it was perfect,” Renner said.

For anyone else wanting to start a there own pin collection and on a jean jacket, Renner has some advice.

“Pro tip: if you are looking to make your own button jacket, do not wear it to the airport. Been there done that. 0/10 recommend,” Renner said.

"I got this one from a barber shop in Nashville, it was in this cool little spot with a neat message," Renner said.
