Many students either have a tattoo or want one in the future. Senior Breena Easterling already has two.

“I have a tattoo on my side that says ‘be your own anchor’ and a crescent moon on my ankle,” Easterling said.

Getting a tattoo can be a hard decision, but both Easterling and senior Olivia Glowacka believe students should go for it.

“I would just do it, but if you are going to get a crazy tattoo make sure it’s hidden so it doesn’t affect getting a job in the future,” Easterling said.

Glowacka also believes getting a unique tattoo is important and that it doesn’t have to have an extremely deep meaning.

“Make sure you don’t get something a lot of people have. Even if you want an infinity sign there are many ways to make it your own. Also, you don’t need an elaborate story for your tattoo to get one,” Glowacka said.

Easterling chose her first tattoo to be a matching tattoo with her best friend.

“My best friend and I have the same tattoo. We were watching one of our favorite shows when the quote “be your own anchor” came up. I pressed pause and and stood there for a minute and then realized we had to get that on us,” Easterling said.

Glowacka got her first tattoo in Madrid, Spain.

“I had the opportunity to get one when I was in Spain and decided to get one of the smaller tattoo ideas I had. My tattoo is a line of eight numbers “77301148” on my left wrist. The “773” signifies the Chicago area code where I grew up in and the “01148” is the area code of the city in Poland where my family is from–Tarnow,” Glowacka said.

Both Easterling and Glowacka had spontaneous tattoo experiences.

“I kind of decided to get one in Spain a week before I got it and didn’t really think about it until I was in the uber to the tattoo shop,” Glowacka said.

“I got my second tattoo a month after my first. Tattoos are addictive. They give me a sense of freedom for some reason and it’s something I enjoy getting,” Easterling said.

When getting a tattoo students may not know where to go or who to trust.

“I got mine at Maximum Tattoo in Deerfield. The people made me feel less nervous and made the experince ‘homey’,” Easterling said.

They both plan on getting more tattoos in the future.

“I’m already planning on tattoo number three,” Easterling said.

“I have more tattoos ideas that I want and in general it wasn’t very painful,” Glowacka said.
