March is the best month of the year for sports fans.

At the beginning of the month, fans are excited because the hype for March Madness is building up. Fans enjoy watching the NBA and NHL and are looking forward to the start of the MLB. Soccer fans enjoy the Champions League quarter final.

This is the typical sports month of march every year, but this year was exceptionally good.

In the NBA, the Raptors emerged as one of the leagues top teams out of nowhere. James Harden has proved he deserves MVP by his addicting-to-watch gameplay.

For college basketball, Michigan made a terrific run to win the Big Ten tournament once again. Loyala-Chicago made one of the all time best March runs. They needed to win their conference tournament in order to get in the NCAA tournament. They did just that. They needed to pull off many one or two point huge upsets in the tournament to advance to the final four. They did just that. In the process, Sister Jean from Loyola-Chicago became a household name due to her relentless support for the team and kind, grandmotherly personality.

In women’s basketball, UConn fell short of winning the championship once again. Arike Ogunbowale from Notre Dame made an outstanding buzzer beater shot to upset unbeaten UConn in the Final Four. In the next game, Ogunbowale hit yet another buzzer beater, this time to win the championship against Mississippi State.

For the MLB, opening day did not disappoint. The first pitch of the entire season was a home run by Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs. Giancarlo Stanton hit two bombs in his first game with the Yankees, a team now loaded, with power hitters Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

This year, March proved to be the best month of sports by a long shot. No other month can come close.
