Orbit Skate Center will be having a going out of business bash on March 31 at 7:00, so students will be able to enjoy the last minutes of Orbit.

After 46 years of business in Palatine, Orbit Skate Center is closing. The owner released in January that the building is going to be sold due to high costs of keeping it running.

Orbit provided skaters with a place for many events, such as birthdays, school events, or business get togethers. Orbit is also home to a skating team which is now losing their practice facility.

“I have had many birthdays there as a child, and it was always so much fun,” senior Mackenzie Kamysz said.

Orbit also supplied just a fun date idea for couples. Roller skating isn’t always available with the crazy weather, so the indoor space supplied a great active date idea.

”I have never gone on a date there but my mom has, and she always comes back smiling like she had the time of her life,” Kamysz said.

It also supplies a place of nostalgia for some people who went there frequently as children.

“Orbit Skate Night when I was at St. James was always something to look forward to and supplied so many good memories. It’s sad to know that it is no longer going to be available,” senior Reggie DeFilippo said.
