Freshman Meaghan Krafton performed in the annual Orchesis show, Synergy, last week. Krafton began dancing when she was two and has continued through her first year of high school.

“I started dancing because every little kid does dance, then I stopped to do basketball and soccer and explore other activities and I started again because a friend and I wanted to try out for a dance company called Vibe through the school district,” Krafton said. “I tried out and I made it, and eventually she began taking me to high school shows.  I realized I really wanted to do dance, and I’ve been doing it ever since.”

Krafton’s participates in a dance company competes four times a year, in addition to dancing with Orchesis, she has connected with the members of Orchesis to become more than a team.

“Orchesis is such a nice family, it’s so nice to have everyone having your back, I’ve made so many new friends and my old babysitter was on Orchesis and she told me about her experience and that really got me into it,” Krafton said.

Krafton enjoys the team’s fun methods of stretching and warming up before every competition.

“Something fun we do before competitions is what we call a shake out where we get loose and literally shake our hands out and count down. We do something called the buzz which is where we pretend to be little bees and lean back to stretch out,” Krafton said.

It is only her first year on Orchesis and her experiences have impacted more than just her dancing.

“I’ve really improved on making new friends and expanding my abilities and techniques in dance,” Krafton said.
