Many students excel in their extracurricular activities. Whether it’s a sport or a club, getting involved in school activities is a great way for students to make new friends and further their interests. And for senior Jack Fredian, that interest is cross country.

Fredian joined cross country in middle school. He enjoyed running in school and also participated in 5ks outside of school, which led to his love of long distance running.

“I’d always try really hard when we ran the mile in middle school and I’d do well,” Fredian said.

Cross country requires a lot of dedication. The team practices every day of the week except on Sundays, when they run on their own. However, most members of the team, including Jack, have adjusted to the commitment and are able to manage their time around practices.

“I’m in NHS, so sometimes I’ll have to miss practice for that. As far as cross country affecting school, it doesn’t affect homework. I’m used to it,” Fredian said.

Overall, cross country is a demanding sport. It can be difficult at times, but Fredian has always been able to find motivation to continue running.

“Running is the hardest part. It can be hard to stay motivated, but you see yourself improving. The improvement is pretty tangible,” Fredian said.
