Seniors Annie Durava and Sarah Lippstreuer will bowl at the sectional meet Saturday at Arlington Lanes at 9:00.

The girls advanced to sectionals as individuals after placing in the top ten bowlers not on qualifying teams at the regional meet in Lake Zurich on Feb. 3.

“I’m just trying to bowl my best self and end my senior bowling season with a high,” Lippstreuer said.

Lippstreuer bowled an 1139 series, averaging 189.83 pins per game and earning the seventh qualifying spot.

“[Regionals went] pretty well. There were two games I wish could have gone better but overall [I was] consistent,” Lippstreuer said.

Durava, a conference medalist who finished in the MSL’s top 10, took the ninth qualifying spot with an 1128 series and 188 average.

“I’m actually very surprised that I qualified for sectionals because after my morning I didn’t think I was going to qualify,” Durava said.

Durava a shot a 525 series in the morning, but was able finish strong with a 603 series in the afternoon to boost her way up to a qualifying spot.

“Regionals was a very interesting day. I wouldn’t say that I bowled my best but I guess it was enough,” Durava said.

The seniors are looking to focus on small details during practices this week to boost their scores on Saturday.

“This week, I’m working on timing. I want to do regular games to work on my release and make sure I’m letting go at the right time consistently,” Lippstreuer said.

“I really want to work on my release and try to make it more consistent for sectionals,” Durava said.

Sectionals will be held at Arlington Lanes, where the regular season meets take place.  So the girls are hoping to have a home advantage.

”Sectionals being at Arlington will definitely help because we have bowled there multiple times so we are more familiar with the lanes,” Durava said.

Both Durava and Lippstreuer are trying qualify for their third straight state appearance.

“One goal I have for sectionals would be to qualify for state but to also bowl to the best of my ability,” Durava said.

They qualified for the state meet the last two years as part of the team.

“It’s going to be hard since I won’t really have a team to fall back on if a game isn’t going my way, but I’m glad to at least have Annie to get through the day with,” Lippstreuer said.
