Students put on four performances of “Shrek The Musical” last weekend.

Students enjoyed being able to take on fairytale roles.  The cast enjoyed embodying the different fairytale aspects of the characters

“I think my favorite part about playing Shrek is that I kind of just get to do what I want on the stage.  Shrek is super gross and super quirky and doesn’t care what people think about him.  So I just get to have fun on stage no matter what,” junior Jason Schmidt said.

Being a musical based off a movie franchise that many students have seen, the cast found it exciting to take on well-known roles.

“My favorite part about playing Donkey is the interaction I get to have with the audience.  Everybody knows and loves this character, so it’s an honor to get to play him and try to just make people smile and be happy,” senior Theo Brown said.

The complexity of the different characters made them more exciting for the cast to act as.

“I just like that she [Fiona] so many ‘layers’ to her.  She’s kind of crazy, but she’s also a princess, so she’s really fun to play,” senior Maggie Muglia said.

The musical was filled with a variety of songs that the cast adored.

“I really love ‘Who I’d Be’ because it makes me super emotional, and it makes me cry every time.  But that’s okay because it’s amazing,” senior Gina Kmilek said.

Although many songs only involved a few characters, the entire cast was able to come together and perform at the end of the musical.

“It [my favorite song] is definitely our finale song called ‘This is Our Story’ because everybody in the cast is in that song, and we’re all singing and having a good time,” senior Reggie DeFilippo said.

Overall, students enjoyed being a part of the musical cast and performing alongside their friends.

“My favorite part is just being with everyone and meeting a bunch of new friends, and having a blast doing what we all love,” sophomore Jaclyn Kragt said.
