The startling increase of terror attacks in this decade have inevitably led to cultural divisions around the world. Many of those who have become aware of the recent atrocities are reluctant to travel, fearing for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Additionally, this distrust has manifested into a refusal to accept those of different cultural backgrounds, which stems from the anxiety and fear of another attack.

While this distrust can be expected given recent events, it doesn’t excuse hatred against innocent people. Furthermore, acts of terror shouldn’t prevent us from traveling the world, or create cultural divisions. If anything, our response should be to embrace those who are different, in direct defiance to those who wish to tear apart our country using fear and bloodshed.

The goals of violent extremists are to create hysteria within the masses, while promoting their twisted ideals and demonizing those who oppose them. By continuing our ways of life, we undermine any attempts to destabilize our country, as their actions shouldn’t have the power to control where we travel or create divisions in society.

It is difficult to continue on, even after such tragedies have occurred. However, the actions of extremists should not affect the way we treat innocent people living among us.
