Senior Tommy Lumsden led the charge for the golf team at their regional meet at Hilldale Golf Club on Oct. 3. Lumsden’s 77 earned him a spot at sectionals and contributed to the team’s sixth place finish.

Lumsden’s sole focus at the regionals was shooting well enough to qualify.

“My goal was obviously to advance. I put a lot of pressure on myself to get out of regionals,” Lumsden said.

Lumsden qualified for sectionals his sophomore year as well, but was unable to compete in his junior season due to a shoulder injury.

“It was a huge accomplishment to come back from an injury and play at a high level. It’s what I wanted to do,” Lumsden said.

Being the only Huskie to advance to sectionals, sectionals will be a unique experience without his team.

“It’ll be different because I don’t really have anyone else there to talk to before or even during. It’s all up to me,” Lumsden said.

Lumsden is focused on having a positive sectional experience.

“Practices haven’t changed much at all. We had a practice round yesterday, and my coach [Dan Caporusso] and I really just had fun. I feel the pressure is off and I can just play my game and do well,” Lumsden said.

Lumsden will tee off at Bittersweet Golf Course on Oct. 9 in his effort to qualify for the state meet.

“My mindset is really to enjoy this experience. I want to have fun with what could be my last match of my golf career,” Lumsden said.
