The swim and dive team hosted their annual “jamboree” invite at Prospect High School on Sept. 29.  The Huskies took the third, with Warren and Maine South finishing in first and second place, respectively.

The unique event consisted of 15 teams, who not only race against each other, but dance against each other.

“It’s fun how all the teams come together to do the dances before homecoming,” sophomore Isa Hahn said. “It’s a very unique experience.”

Before the meet begins, each team performs a fun dance for the boys of the homecoming court. The boys judge the dances based on dance skills, costumes, creativity, and more. The winning dancers from Prospect won ten pounds of candy.

“I was really nervous, but I was excited to have fun dancing and be with people who enjoy the sport like me,” sophomore Bianca Teves said.

In addition to the dance competition, the invite stands apart from others because music is played throughout the races and teams are encouraged to cheer on competitors by dressing up and bringing posters. This fun atmosphere makes a tradional invite more entertaining for spectators and swimmers than traditional invites, who get pumped up for races with the excitement of the event.

“It was really hyped and a fun atmosphere to be around. There was no pressure, just pure joy,” Teves said.

Swimming will face off against the Wheeling Wildcats on Thursday in an effort to win the MSL East division title.  They will wrap up the regular season at the MSL conference championship on Oct. 28.
