While the Northwest Suburbs already seem packed with dessert places, Andy’s Frozen Custard opened up a new shop in Mount Prospect on Aug. 2.

Despite being a chain, Andy’s still has a cute ice cream shop vibe. The walk-up window gives off a welcoming impression, and the drive-thru is super convenient. The absence of indoor seating isn’t even a problem.

Their frozen custard is creamy, smooth, and down-right delectable. It is made fresh every hour, and customers can even see it being made through the window.

The menu is quite extensive, including concretes, sundaes, malts, splits, cones, and other frozen treats. The options are all tempting and are better than the competition. Concretes, in particular, are much fresher and creamier than Dairy Queen Blizzards.

Along with classic chocolate and vanilla treats (and a large assortment of toppings), they also offer seasonal options. The Key Lime Pie Concrete is the perfect summer-y treat; the creamy vanilla custard is blended with a slice of key lime pie to make the ultimate concoction. The lime flavor is prominent, but not overpowering, and the bits of pie add a texture that perfectly compliments the frozen custard.

Overall, Andy’s reigns supreme in the frozen treat world, and its new, convenient location tops it off.
