Sony Pictures Animation recently released a children’s comedy film, “The Emoji Movie”. The movie takes place in the digital city of Textopolis where emojis await to be sent out by the phone’s user.

The main character, Gene, is a “meh” emoji believed to be a malfunction and must escape the city before he is deleted. This film includes the voices of TJ Miller, James Corden, and Anna Farris with cameo appearances from Christina Aguilera and Sofía Vergara.

For the same company that has released films like “The Smurfs” and “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs”, this film is a big disappointment. The concept of this movie can easily be compared to that of Pixar’s “Inside Out” and the plot is both cliché and predictable due to its stale jokes and worn out scenarios.

Although the message of this film is meant to be that of positivity and self-confidence, it’s really a reminder of how little we use actual words to communicate. Overall, this film is a washout compared to recent films made by Sony and can be described as just, meh.
