Junior Jenna Simpson has been involved in Orchesis for her entire high school career and is very passionate about the activity.
“My goals this year were to be proud of my choreography and really enjoy dancing without being stressed about it, because that defeats the whole purpose,” Simpson said.
Simpson has been dancing since she was in fourth grade, in both group routines and solos.
“Dancing on a team is different from dancing alone. It incorporates a lot more cohesion among dancers because we are all doing choreography at the same time, and have to be in sync. There’s also a lot more energy,” Simpson said. “Dancing alone is still fun, but it’s more about you and really showing off your choreography and giving it your all the entire time.”
Orchesis is an activity that requires a variety of skills, and dancers have to be proficient in all of them. “It takes a lot of muscle. You have to build up stamina to be able to dance for long periods of time,” Simpson said.
After high school, Simpson is considering minoring in dance in college. We wish her luck with anything she decides to pursue in the future!
